Supernatural Eyebrow Wax

So, today I was getting my eyebrows waxed and something weird happened. As soon as the lady who was waxing my brows touched me she said (in her broken English ) "You have wedding?" I wasn't wearing my wedding ring at all, actually, so I asked "Do you mean, am I married?" She still has her hand on my forehead now, mind you. She said "No, lots of weddings. When I touch you I see lots of brides." Hmmm . Weird. So I told her what I did for a living and joked that she must have a gift of reading people's eyebrows like some people read palms. She laughed and just said "Sometimes I see things."

Flushed with Love

Well, today Loralie slam dunked an entire roll of toilet paper in the toilet. Luckily, I heard the giant splash and had time to get there before she flushed! I know she is not trying to be naughty. She is just experimenting with how the world works and trying to immitate her parents. It's like the perfect storm! Ha! I am finding it hard to be the stern disciplinarian when I find myself bursting out laughing at most of her antics. But I also know that part of the experiment is to see what Mom's reaction will be... So giggling probably isn't great. At some point flushing stuff will cease to be amusing. But today also brought one of a parents greatest joys- Loralie said "I yuv you". Talk about your heart melting! All is forgiven after that! Just one more loopdy loop on this crazy ride we call parenting! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Loralie is 16 months old today!

Our little girl is getting SO BIG! Figuratively, not literally. Ha. I weighed her today and she was a whopping 21.9 lbs. She is starting to look a little too tall for her size 12 month pants now- we have a few "high water" situations happening. She is learning new words almost every day- she says 40 words now! Most recently she added "thank you" and "flower". She is starting to put two word phrases together such as "up me" when she wants you to pick her up and "go bye bye" or "where's dada?" She pretty much runs non-stop during all of her waking hours, which is how she stays so skinny. She is starting to exert more control over what she eats. She LOVES cheese, macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, and yogurt, so we have the dairy covered. She will still eat peas and carrots and a few other vegetables, but isn't too keen on trying anything new right now. She still doesn't like anything warmed up (she says...

Loralie is getting really good at copying eveything Mom and Dad do. Caleb was trying to show her how he plays the harmonica. She watched him very intently, and when it was her turn to try it, she put the harmonica to her mouth and sang/screamed the sound! She was delighted with herself for doing it just like Daddy! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

The San Francisco Treat

Image
My San Francisco vacay is drawing to a close, but it was a fabulous weekend! Stacey picked me up at the airport on Friday night and we headed out for sushi, which I really like, but Caleb never let's me get. The next morning we got up late and drove to the city where we did some shopping before our gourmet walking tour. It was sunny and nice and soooo yummy ( we were totally stuffed by the time we were done and had walked about a million miles. Then we went out for drinks while waiting for our spa pedicures! Great day! Sunday, which was Valentine's Day, we did some more shopping (such a treat for me), and a lot more eating (yum). We went to a vineyard for some leisurely wine tasting, and then back to Stacey's for dinner. We went to this cute little chocolate shop for dessert and expresso, and then went to see the movie Valentines Day (which was entertaining, but by no means a classic!). Overall, a great weekend. But be it ever so humble, there's no place like h...

Up, up, and away!

Today begins my San Francisco adventure! I am meeting up with my good friend Stacey for a girls weekend! Let me just begin by saying that I am not a fan of arriving at the airport early. I really prefer the adrenaline rush of running through the terminal and being the last person to board the plane, seconds before take off. Unfortunately my more practical side usually wins out, and I find myself in an overcrowded terminal sitting next to a guy who looks exactly like the BTK killer. He tries to spark up some chit-chat, which I expertly dodge, inbetween boughts of staring (him at me, not me at him). When I finally board the plane, I am the lucky winner of a window seat next to a family with a one year old. She is already cranky, and mom keeps talking to her in a really annoying baby voice (which I am sure I do too, but it is annoying when other people do it!). But the clouds look lovely up here, like fluffy cotton balls (it's kinda making me want to jump out of the plane, beca...

Toddler time

I find myself laughing quite a lot these days at the crazy stuff Loralie likes to do! She is fast as lighting, and a teeny bit sneaky, so sometimes it is hard to catch her before she does something naughty! She has a favorite pair of mom's underwear that she has dug out of the drawer on several occasions to make herself a fetching hat. She walks around going "hat! hat!" and I don't have the heart to tell her she's wrong. She thinks she looks like a fancy lady with her special hat. She also likes to "help" mommy with chores around the house, especially putting laundry away. As you can see, we haven't quite got the concept of "away" yet! More clothes get OUT of the drawer than IN. And every roll of toilet paper in our house is raggedly re-rolled, as she has taken to UN-rolling it while saying "no, no, no!" Well, at least I know she has been listening to me! Ha! She just cracks me up though! Do you know that scene from "The Sixt...

Worries

I can't sleep. It is almost two in the morning and I am lying here with worries rising up in my head like the bubbles in a champagne bottle. It is so damn scary to love another human being with your whole heart. I think about my sweet husband and how we will hopefully spend a whole lifetime together. But at some point one of us will have to leave the other, and that far off (or maybe not) pain makes my heart ache already. And then I look at our beautiful daughter. I love her so much I can't hardly stand it. What if something were to happen to her? I don't think I could live through it. What if twelve years from now she decides that she hates me? It would break my heart. What if we can't teach her right from wrong or she is decieved by this world of pretty lies that we are living in? It reminds me of how brave and strong my God is. He did not have to give us free will. He could have made us all perfect robots that would do whatever we were programed to do. ...

Adventures in Flushing

Loralie managed a tiny turd-lette on the potty today (I apologize to my non-parent readers for the amount of "potty content" lately). Anyways, I excitedly transfered the poo to the big toilet and told Loralie to flush. She looked at the bowl for a minute, tossed her hairbow in, and flushed! Luckily it wasn't one of her really cute ones, so I (once again) had to go fishing in the toilet and trashed the soggy bow. That kid keeps me on my toes! I should keep a running list of the objects that make it into our toilet!
