Disney, Here We Come!

Image
We are counting down the days until we leave for Florida! Loralie has a chart on the refeidgerator and she gets to put a sticker on each day until we leave. Eighteen more days! She is very excited to ride in an airplane and to meet her princess friends.

Sweating at the Zoo and Talking French Toast

I kept waiting for a day that was less than 100 degrees so that I could take Loralie to the zoo with our new super-duper family zoo passes, but seeing as that day may never come, I broke down today and took her despite the heat advisory. It really wasn't as bad as I was expecting. We got there early, before the asphalt started melting, and there was actually a nice breeze and lots of shade. We rode more than we walked, and tried to alternate an indoor activity with an outdoor activity. We got to try out the new "Skylift", which is like a ski lift that takes you over a lot of the Africa exhibit, and Loralie really liked that. She wasn't scared at all! She didn't like the snake house, though, and asked to leave immediately, even though it was so cool in there I could have stayed all day! The only casualty of the trip was our ham and cheese sandwiches, which I had thrown in a brown paper bag with no ice or anything. I decided against food poising us, and bought some...

Trying to Beat the Heat...

It is HOT here. Really hot. Like one-hundred-degrees-melt-your-face-off HOT. So we are not venturing outside much. Instead we are doing a lot of "projects", which include anything with stickers or sand art, or beading (Loralie's favorites). We have also been playing a whole lot of Old Maid and Candyland . Caleb has taken Loralie to the pool a few times, which is nice, but I just cant stand the HOT. I like my air conditioning.

Potty progress

Loralie has been doing great on her potty training lately! She has a tinkerbell potty chart, and she gets a prize when tinkerbell gets to her house. Today she got her very own fingernail polish! It was just clear with glitter, so I let her paint her nails by herself! She said, "mom, I just like a grown up lady now!"

That's My Funniest Joke!

Toddlers have their own unique brand of humor. One day I was making dinner in the kitchen, and Loralie started spinning in circles screaming " Pineapple Pants! Pineapple Pants!" And then laughing hysterically at her joke. This has evolved into her coming up to you at random times and saying: L: "Guess what Mommy" M: "What?" L: " PINEAPPLE PANTS" Hilarious laughter ensues . And recently she has put even another spin on her funniest joke. L: "Guess what mommy" M: "What?" L: "Pineapple Shirt!" or possibly "Banana Pants!" 'Cause a good comedian has to keep her material fresh!

Chick-Sa-Way

Loralie's all time favorite restuarant (if you can call it that) is Chick-fil-a (which she pronounces "Chick-Sa-Way"). Today was their "cow appreciation day", where if you dressed up like a cow, you got free food, so, of course we were down for that! My proudest mommy/ex-kindergarten teacher moment was when she read her very first piece of "environmental print", which is just a fancy way of saying "words kids have seen a lot and memorized what they mean." I put the silly chick-fil-a sign on her chest and she looked down and it and said "Eat some more chicken!" What a genius! But maybe we take her here a little bit too much! Ha! Anyway, here is a video of her talking about her most favorite "chick-sa-way".

Independence Day

Image
We had a very boring fourth of July around here! The highlights were Loralie decorating cupcakes, and her outfit! Caleb had to work, and Loralie was scared of fireworks. I had a really sore back (I think I slept on it wrong or something, but it was miserable!) We all really missed my Dad because last fourth of July was the last holiday we were all together. So overall, a sucky fourth.
