Stayin' in the Lines

The Princess and the Pee

Image
The last few weeks have passed by quickly and peacefully, although the weather has been oppressively hot. Loralie, NeeNee and I went on a little (indoor) excursion to see "Once Upon a Matress", a play at the Coterie Theater in Crown Center. It is a silly retelling of the fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea". My princess was pretty good and did think the play was funny, but she had several "pees" of her own, i.e. potty breaks...

Beatin' the Heat

Tomato, tomoto

Image
Our huge tomato plants have actually had a ton of tomatoes on them this year! So much so that we have been giving them away, eating BLTs every other day, and I finally decided to make some homemade pasta sauce to freeze so that none of that summertime yumminess goes to waste!

Bedtime Prayers

Image
This is how Loralie's bedtime prayers go most nights as of late (transcribed word for word): (Last night's prayers with mommy) Dear Je-Jus, Thank you for my mom and dad, and thank you for this nice wonderful food what you gave us in our fridge, and kitchens closed, so we don't have to eat anymore!  And thank you for my mom's eyes so she can see, and her mouth so she can talk, and her nose so she can smell stuff what's so yummy, and thank you for her ears so she can listen if my brother's crying!  Amen! (A few nights ago with Daddy) Dear Je-Jus, Thank your my mom and dad and thank you for my daddy got something wierd for him to take away.  Thank you for my clock, thank you for my curtains.  Thank you for the wind and the storm.  And please take the storm away cause I don't like it.  I'm too afraid of it.  And, thank you for my dad's ears so he can listen, and his nose so he can sneeze and his boogers so he can pick it and ea...

Brownie bribe

Image
Tonight for dinner I made roasted shrimp and broccoli... A pinterest recipe that I happened to have all the ingredients for. It was met with less than enthusiastic faces by both Caleb and Loralie. She even did her first "try to hide your broccoli under the table" trick. It was looking pretty bleak until I suggested that she wouldn't be able to get dessert if she didn't eat her dinner. She countered by asking for some ketchup. I felt that was a fair trade off, so she proceeded to dunk not only her shrimp but her broccoli in ketchup and managed to choke it down! What this girl won't do for a Fiber One Brownie!

Tub Time

Image
Rub a dub dub, there's a baby in the tub! A squeakily clean little mister! He is almost getting too long for his tub, And soon will be bathing with sister! After we're clean, we get wrapped up so cozy, Then get tucked in from our heads to our toeseys! A binky, a song, as you shut off the light, Then kiss my sweet head and bid me goodnight!

Forf July

Image
Yesterday we celebrated the "forf July" as Loralie likes to say, by going over to the Enderline's house for a barbecue. Roman did great until around 9pm, at which point he was inconsolable so we headed home to put him to bed. We put him down and then joined the neighbors on the driveway to watch the war zone that is our neighborhood fireworks display! Loralie enjoyed the "fire cracks" and stayed up WAY to late running around with the other little girls!

Happy Half Birthday Roman!

Image
Roman turned 6 months old a few days ago! He is grabbing things with his hands, putting everything in his mouth, and sitting up by himself for a few seconds at a time! He had tried rice cereal, peaches, and sweet potatoes. He still takes 3 or 4 naps per day and sleeps from 8pm-6:30ish and then back to sleep until 8. He loves to watch his big sister and to jump in his jumper. I can't believe his first year is halfway over! Slow down son!

Cousins Fun

Image
Loralie and Ada spent the last two days together, and boy am I tired! Just kidding, actually they did great. We played in the kiddie pool (briefly), blew bubbles, swinged and slided. Today Caleb helped me take all the kids to Kalediscope at Crown Ceter. The girls had a great time being budding artists!

Lake Saturday

Image
What's better than a summer day at the lake? A summer day at the lake with good friends! We joined Caleb's entire squad, plus wives and kids for a day of fun in the sun. Most of the day was spent floating like so: Loralie and Roman had a blast swimming with all the other kiddos. Loralie about gave me a heart attack jumping off of the one story dock all by herself. Terrifying. She didn't seem that phased by it... Here is Caleb jumping off there... Basically, a fun and relaxing day!
