Moms and Dads

The pregnancy week by week website sends me a task to complete each week in preparation for baby. This week, Caleb and I are supposed to complete a few lists about our own parents, to foster discussion about our parenting styles. So here are my lists:

My Mom Always...
read to us
volunteered at our school
planned awesome birthday parties for us
knew all of our friends and their moms
cooked and did most of the housework
did the yardwork
had a snack for us when we got home from school
Dealt with problems at school

My Dad Always...
watched the incredible hulk and night rider with me on a saturday morning
was teasing us
paid us for good grades
brought us home presents from his business trips
taught us to love music
Played sports with us
took us on special outings
worked outside of the home
enforced the "heavy discipline"
was an alli when you were in trouble with mom
taught us to drive
My mom never...
let us do Halloween
really got us to do chores (her biggest parenting regret)
allowed us to watch PG 13 movies until we were literally 13
let us miss church
liked to cook
My Dad Never...
had much patience ( I inherited that...)
cried in front of us

It's amazing how your life can change in a single minute. One minute you are laughing and having fun, and the next minute your legs have given out from under you and you are sobbing uncontrollably in the middle of the Tropicana casino while everyone looks at you like you are insane. Simmin' in the Simmin' Pool!

So, our outdoor baby has a new love of her life- "Simmin' in the simmin' pool!" I think she would be out there all day if I let her! In fact, I have to watch her really carefully when we are just playing in the backyard, cause she has been known to crawl in by herself fully dressed! She likes to splash and kick, and play with her watering can and rubber duckies. Mama is going to have a good tan by the end of this summer!
