This N That

Image
I just went through my pictures to see of we had been up to anything blog worthy lately. Short answer: no. But here is what we have been doing- Loralie went to the dentist. She was a big girl and had no cavities. Roman enjoyed the chewy free toothbrush. He may have a new tooth soon! I went in for a sonogram. Not of the baby variety, but of the boob variety but by to worry because I too had a good check up! I have also been doing some crafty crafts including some wall art and a new Roman shade for the bathroom. So that's about it!

Field Trip to the Pet Shop

Image
Today I got to accompany Loralie's preschool class on a field trip to the pet shop. It was smelly. And a little boring, I am not gonna lie. Loralie didn't want to pet any of the pets. She liked watching the hamsters and the fish. We are pretty firmly not pet people.

Easter Eve

Image
Today is Easter Eve and we have been celebrating all day long! Well, after we went grocery shopping, ate lunch, and took naps, anyways. But after that we were ready to roll! We dyed our Easter eggs and Roman sampled a hard boiled egg. He was not impressed. During dinner we had Loralie "read" Roman her Story of Easter book, and she did a great job of retellling all the important details. We also took communion as a family at dinner, which I think was really neat. Caleb was reminding Loralie that when we drank the wine (grape juice!) we were supposed to remember Jesus' blood, and when we ate the bread we were supposed to remember His body. Loralie said "and what should I remember when I eat my chicken?" Haha! We finished our Easter Eve festivities by making resurrection rolls to eat for breakfast tomorrow!

Easter Escapade 10k

Image
I completed my first road race of the year this morning. It was a balmy 35 degrees! My friend Heather and I finished in one hour and five minutes, shaving ten minutes off of my last race time! It is my goal to complete three more races in 2013!

Nice Purse

Image
I took the children with me on several errands yesterday, something I usually avoid. They did remarkably well, but by the fourth stop, grocery shopping, Loralie was clearly starting to wind up. We were standing in line for the register when she inadvertently started following another women, thinking it was me. I heard her say, "oh, I like your new purse mommy! Hey is that gum in there?" I was saying her name, waving my arms like an idiot while she rifled through some poor lady's purse! When she suddenly realized the stranger wasn't me, she was pretty upset. The lady whose purse she went though wasn't that thrilled about it either!

Kiss Me I'm Irish!

Image
I am not really a fan of St. Patrick's Day.  I hadn't planned on doing anything really fun with the kiddos to celebrate, but then both of them decided to sleep until 8am, and that put me in such a good mood that I decided to play a little trick on Loralie.  When she went up to her bathroom she found this: A Leprechan must have taken a potty break at our house on his way to the end of the rainbow!  She kinda freaked out!  That had me feeling kinda silly, so I went ahead and made green eggs, green toast, and green milk for breakfast.  So much for no artificial food dyes... Here are my cute little lucky charms!

Resurrection Eggs

Image
Hey!  If anyone is looking for a fun Easter tradition that helps the kiddos focus on the real story of Easter, you might try doing Resurrection Eggs.  I am going to share with you my modified version of them, which I have done with Loralie for the last two years.  I cut the number of eggs down from twelve to six, and cut out some of the more graphic stuff which I didn't think she was ready for.  Since I only have six eggs now, I start two weeks before Easter and go through each egg twice.  The first time I read her the story that goes with each egg, the second time she has to tell me the story that goes with each egg.  I also usually google coloring sheets to go with each of the bible stories, and on Easter Eve we make Resurrection Rolls.   So here is what you need: 6 large plastic eggs 1 leaf 5 dimes 1 cracker/ picture of bread 1 flower 1 cross bible or children's bible candy Here is how to assemble your eggs.  I like to number the e...

Going, Going, Gone

Dare we say spring may be on the way?

Mom Prom

Image
Saturday night I went to the "Mom Prom". Which was not, as my babysitter asked, "like a prom for nerds?"... No, it was a prom for old ladies. Ha! Our Mothers of Preschoolers group, otherwise known as MOPs, hosted a fun night out for us, including dinner and dancing, so I thought, "why not?" Caleb was working anyways, so it was either go or spend my saturday night watching TV! The dress code was either prom attire or 80s wear. I dug this red number out of Loralie's dress up box- ha! That's where I shop for formal wear! The dance itself was pretty fun. Notice I didn't say really really fun? The thing is, out of the 100 moms that attend MOPs once a month, I consider many of them good acquaintances. Out of those there are a few that I consider friends. Unfortunately none of the "friends" were in attendance. And suddenly it was just like high school again! The girls that I consider acquaintances were clearly the "cool...

Designs

Image
This is the playhouse that Loralie designed for her daddy to build her. Ironically, it looks just like the one she already has. She keeps saying "we gotta build this dad!" And when he mentioned building was more of a spring/summer project she said "I will have to keep this drawing til then! I hope I don't lose it..."

Quarantine

Image
Yesterday, after running some errands I noticed Loralie had a big goober in her eye, and it was a little red. We used a tissue on it, but a few hours later it was still red. I had been a kindergarten teacher for six years. I knew what I was looking at. Conjunctivitis. Otherwise know as the dirty kid disease of pinkeye. Luckily, our after putting in a call to our pediatrician they were able to just call in the prescription eye drops for her without having to go in for an appointment. Now getting said drops into the offending eyes- that takes some hardcore bribery! So today will be spent with the little invalid in front of the TV, while I change and wash all linens and disinfect all hard surfaces! Isn't being a mom glamorous?

14 Months

Image
Baby Boy Wonder is now 14 months old! He is cruising around like crazy and getting into all kinds of stuff he shouldn't! Walking, running, and acrobatics shouldn't be too far on the horizon now! He is learning so many new words, repeating things he hears all day long. Here is his words list: Mamma Dadda Bubbuh Lor-lie Up All done Hi Num nums Ball Ouch Uh-huh Nigh-nigh Good job Car More Arm Dinky (binky) Uh-oh bubba! Bobble (bottle) He also imitates animal sounds when he hears them. He can do the sounds for all the animals in his book! He eats everything. Literally, whatever we put in his plate he will eat. Usually he eats more than Loralie. No joke. He is starting to test what we mean when we say "no". For example, he will purposefully drop food off of his highchair. We will say no. He will look at us quizzically and dangle another piece of food tauntingly over the edge. We will say "no no Romey". He smiles, and drops ...

Easy as Apple Pie

Image
The phrase "Easy as Apple Pie" is terribly deceiving. Maybe the eating of the pie is easy, but the making of it is a whole other story! Loralie got it into her head that she wanted to make Daddy a REAL apple pie. She has been pestering me for days. Finally today I gave in. I have a pie crust recipe that my family has used for generations. Ok, maybe just a few years. Well, a friend of the family gave it to my parents and they have been using it ever since 2008. But I digress. The crust recipe is easy and pretty fool proof ( I let Loralie do all the measuring and it still turned out great.). However, I forgot to check the pantry before we started and we only had half the amount of shortening it called for so I subbed butter. Probably made it a little softer, and it browned a little quicker. Ok, the outside edge was pretty crispy. And black. Oh well, I kinda hate pie anyways. But all that to say that the crust was easy, but the peeling, coring, and slicing of apples...
