"I Am Good At Screwing!" And Family Togetherness Day

Today was declared "Lenz Family Togetherness Day"! We have both been so busy with work lately, and it seems when we do both have a day off, we are still passing Loralie off so we can get our various projects done, so today we banned phones and computers and vowed to do EVERYTHING together, as a family. First item on the agenda was a little trip to Penguin Park. I hadn't been there since I was a teenager, and Loralie had never been. She LOVED it, of course, as she is a "Slide and Swing" Fanatic! She also kept exclaiming "Penguin!" whenever she would look up and see the ginormous Penguin for which the park is named. There are all theses really cool things for kids to play on, but what did Loralie want to do the most??? SWING. Dang, we could have done that in our backyard! After all the park excitement, Loralie took a nap, and Mommy and Daddy worked on her swing set TOGETHER. I found out I am really good at working the power tools, and Caleb put me to work screwing (insert dirty joke here.). Now I can say that I helped build the swingset...if it ever gets done. We finished off Lenz Family Togetherness Day with a BBQ with some of the families that Caleb works with. All in all a great day, and I didn't find myself wondering where all the time with my family went!

Loralie has had a love for all things Elmo from the time she was three months old. I am not exaggerating. When she was just a wee little thing I turned on Sesame Street just to see if she would watch it (she pretty much ignored all other TV at the time). Conversations with My Father

I got my Dad this really cool book for Christmas. It is called "Conversations with My Father" and it is a book of questions that you sit down and ask your Dad all about his life. I am excited to start working on it with my Dad, but I thought it would also be fun to record my own answers to some of the questions. My book would be called "Conversations with Loralie's Mom." He he. Anyways, the first page is all about your childhood, so here goes. I was born on May 20th, 1980 in Portland OR. I was definatley delivered in a hospital, no hippy dippy home births here. The only thing unusual about my birth, as far as I know, is that I was delivered precisely on my due date. I like to be on time. I think it is a courtesy to others. My parents named me Niki Rochelle Brummett. My mom picked out the first name, after a friend she had had. My Mom and the Mailman

This story falls under the category of "kids say the darnedest things". When I was about two years old, my parents sat me down to tell me the exciting news that I was going to have a baby brother or sister. My response was "The mailman will be sooo happy!!!" To which my Dad replied "Say what?!?!" He always says it's a good thing I was born with the Brummett gap between my teeth, or Mom would have had a little explaining to do! They still to this day do not know why I felt our mailman would be the most excited about the new addition to our family!
