Mommy and Roman- Part 2

Image
Roman and I have been quite busy during our Staycation.  Even though we have been constantly on the move I have been going crazy with boredom... A toddler does not make for a great conversationalist.  If I hadn't had Bunko on Friday night I would probably be bonkers by now! Roman ate a whole pizza for dinner! He requested to "olor" at approximately 7:15am.  Sleepy mommy. We went to Renfest today and watched all the weirdos.  He must really miss Caleb because he kept pointing to random dudes and saying "Daddy?"  One particular gentlemen was wearing devil horns.  Uh oh.  Can't wait until the rest if the clan gets home!

Living room re-do

Image
Remember this sad, ugly living room?!?  It got a slow and steady makeover this summer.  Here are the results: I sewed new pillows and curtains, we got a new light fixture and rug.  Caleb built that huge mirror using the builders mirror we took out of the powder room!  Oh, and the fireplace wall got a nice accent color.  All in all, it went from being my least favorite room of the house to my favorite!  Here's one more before and after: And after!

Mommy Roman Staycation

Image
Caleb dropped Loralie off in Bolivar on his way to his hunting trip in Texas, so me and Roman are having a little "staycation". Four whole days of no responsibility or cooking!  What's a mom and baby to do?!? We spent the morning at the zoo with cousin Ada and uncle Matt... Roman rode the carousel for the first time!  Such a big boy! Mommy and Ada being silly! Two peas. Roman got home and took an awesome nap, and then we were ready to go again! I took him out on a special sushi date! What is this stuff? Auckie!  Throws most of it on the floor.  I don't know what his problem is, I thought it was delicious!

Legos at Powell Gardens

Image
This morning I rather spontaneously decided to take the kids to Powell Gardens.  It has got to be the most beautiful place in Kansas City.  With the perfect fall weather and the amazing landscaping I just kept thinking "this must be what Eden was like!" They were doing an exhibit with Lego sculptures placed all around the gardens.    Loralie liked following the map and finding them all.   Can you tell she dressed herself???? Roman was just along for the ride, but he did get out of a stroller a few times to explore! Yay!  Fall is finally here!

Comedian

Yes, those are bananas on his head.  He keeps putting them up there and saying "Hat!" And cracking up at himself!

We Have a Reader

Image
Loralie read me a whole book today without any help!  She is a reader!  I am so proud!

Plaza 10K

Image
Third race of the year is in the books!  My friends Heather and Carrie ran the Plaza 10K with me bright and early this morning.  We finished in 1:13, which ain't bad.  One more to go in 2013!

Retro Trike

Image
Caleb got this tricycle from his Grandma's barn.  It was one that all the grand kids played with when he was growing up.  It was in pretty bad shape though so he had it sand blasted and painted.  It is just the perfect size for Loralie and Roman will enjoy it after her!

The Author Within

Image
I have been slacking off on my blog lately.  Admit it.  You have noticed a recent decline in brilliance.  That is probably due to the fact that all my writers energy has been going towards this: No, that's not the entire 808 section of the public library... It's just all the ones I could carry.  And I have almost read all of them now.  BECAUSE....(drum roll), I have decided it is time to start career number four: author of brilliant children's and YA books!  It started when I got a chance to write some dramas for church this summer.  Well, actually it started as soon as I could hold a pencil but this summer I really got my creative juices flowing and I loved it!  It is such a fun outlet for a mom!  So for the last several weeks nap time has been mommy's writing time, and I even have some finished picture book manuscripts to show for it!  Tonight I attended my very first writers group at the library which will be a weekly critique and acc...

Baby Brother's 20 Months

Image
Can you believe this spunky boy is twenty months old now?  He is mommy's little buddy now that Loralie is in school all day.  He asks about her all the time when she is gone.  The first day we sort of sat around looking at each other, because it was so weird to not have her there entertaining us both!  Today, while she was at school we went to library story time at the new library.  There were roughly a million kids there, so Roman sat calmly in his stroller and people watched.  He really got excited when the songs started though, and I could tell her remembered some of them form last year. We love our little Roman Dean!
