If You're Happy and You Know It...

Image
Our Crazy Girl was entertaining us last night by making up her own verses to the song "If You're Happy and You Know It", while dancing around the living room. We especially liked... "If you're happy and you know it text a friend!" "If you're happy and you know it take your pants off!" "If you're happy and you know it have a drink!"

Pulling Up and Walking

Image
Let the record state that at 12 months Roman is pulling up, cruising, and walking (behind his walker)! I don't know if I mentioned this before, but he also is crawling forward now. He still doesn't really like to. He'd rather just scream until you pick him up or bring him what he wants :p

Tubes

Image
Roman has had ear infections on and off since around October, so our pediatrician recommended he have tubes put in his ears. I took him for his preliminary exam on Tuesday. They did an ultrasound on his ear drums and found that the right side was pretty much flat lining due to the amount of fluid behind it. They also gave him a hearing test and said that he may have some minor hearing loss, but they didn't say if it was permanent and I am hoping that it isn't. He was able to go in for surgery the next day, Wednesday. Caleb took him, because I knew I would cry watching them roll him down the hall on the bed. The actual surgery only takes about ten minutes though. Caleb said Roman was pretty mad waking up from the anesthesia, but he was back to normal pretty quickly and hasn't been too much crankier than usual! Hopefully this will save us some trips to the doctors and keep him off of antibiotic for a while.

Little Monster Party

Image
We finally got around to celebrating Roman's first birthday with a fun "Little Monster" themed birthday party. The menu included "Build A Monster Sandwich" station,  Monster horns, warts, and scales (Bugles, Cheese Balls, and Chips), and some cute monster paws! The babies played,  and colored, and made some cute monster hats,  and then it was time for presents! After presents we sang "Happy Birthday" and dug into cake! We also had fun playing around with the photo booth props! A great day for our little boy!  We love you so much Roman and we can't wait to see you learn and grow each and every year!

How Does This Happen???

I went to check on Roman during nap time and found him in this sitting up pretzel position, sound asleep! I had to take a picture before I fixed him! Hehe

Little Man

Roman had his 12 month doctor appointment today. He was fine with the sitting in the scale-chair (18lbs) and he tolerated being measured (27 inches), but when they tried to check his ear, all hell broke loose. Apparently the ear infection that we had been treating for ten days flaired back up in one of his ears. The doctor said it looked pretty bad. Poor baby! No wonder you were such a grump all morning! So this means tubes in the ears for Roman. I am actually looking forward to it. So many people have told me what a huge difference it made for their kids. I wonder if he really has a grumpy personality or if he has just been constantly sick?!? Maybe all the screaming is because he can't hear himself! Back to the height/weight, he was in the 5th percentile for weight, and off the charts short! Sorry little guy, you might end up with mommy's height! Maybe you will be a racehorse jockey? Also, I checked the developmental checklist and the number of words that he can ...

Pop Goes the Baby

Image
Roman is pulling up now, so nap time has become a practicing session. Each time mommy lays him down, Roman pulls himself back up. I can hear him from the hallway saying "Uh oh, Bubba! Uh oh, Bubba!" And when I sneak a peak, sure enough, he is standing up with the biggest grin on his face! Unfortunately he hasn't mastered the art of letting go and laying back down so this goes on for quite some time!

January always really gets away from me!  It seems like once the holidays are over and we can get back to our normal routine we don't vary from it much for a while.  Which doesn't make for very interesting blog content.  But, I DID get a cool new camera for Christmas and have been spending a lot of time trying to learn how to use it.  I have gone through some online tutorials, and read two big 'ol books I got from the library, including my first ever "For Dummies".  They say your first 1,000 pictures are your worst, so I am just trying to get those out of the way!  I have been doing some different assignments which involve taking millions of pictures of very interesting things like this: But really all I want to take pictures of are these cuties! Yeah, maybe I should let them finish their food first, and clean them up a bit before I make them my models! But all that to say that I now know a little bit about Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed, White B...

Happy Birthday Roman!

Image
Happy Birthday little man!  We love you so much!  And, my oh my, have you done a lot of growing and changing this month!  Here you are eating your birthday cinnamon waffles!  You will eat just about anything that we put in front of you!  You also are getting pretty good at using a sippy cup like a big boy!  And ever since Christmas, you have been CRAWLING!  Woo Hoo!  Mostly army crawling for now, but you can regular crawl backwards.  Daddy thinks its funny to line up Cherrios or yogurt dots in front of you to motivate you to get going! You have learned to bang two objects together, so that is really fun.  And your most amazing recent accomplishment?  You are talking up a storm!  You repeat pretty much everything we say now!  You can say momma, dada, la-la-lie, up, all done, more, uh-oh, and my favorite, "toot-toot", just like a choo-choo!  We think you are confused about your name.  The ot...

2013

Image
We rang in the new year "Parent Style".  We had over a few dear couples and their adorable kids and kept it really fun and casual.  The girls (yes, all girls!) got to eat delicious parfaits in fancy glasses.  Then they disappeared into the basement and only reappeared to tattle occasionally.  They kept themselves very busy down there, playing dress up and putting on not one, but two plays for the grown ups.  Very professional.  The directing was phenomenal. The grown ups chatted and ate delicious junk food and drank lots. I love these girls! The little girlies were back upstairs at midnight to countdown and toast the new year (with sparkling cider).  They liked it so much they did it over and over again.  Hehe. 2012 was a great year!  I can't wait to see what the new year will bring!
