Sleeping Like a Big Boy

Image
It seems like sometimes when parenting, the transitions that you are dreading the most end up being no big deal, and the ones that you hadn't even thought about end up smacking you upside the head!  Roman had been sleeping in a baby recliner in his crib every nap and bedtime since he was three weeks old to keep him in an upright position to help with his reflux. Now that he is getting bigger, I was concerned that it wasn't safe for him to sleep in it anymore.  So I propped up one end of the crib with a few blankets, and tried it out, expecting that he would throw a big fit about it, but surprisingly, he hardly seemed to notice!  He has slept in the crib "big boy style" for two nights in a row now without incident.  Look how cute!  So his bedtime routine is now as follows:  He eats his last bottle of the day, and has a warm relaxing bubble bath.  Then mommy gives him his baby massage and gets him snugly in his jammies.  He likes to have the fa...

Just Like NeeNee

I saw Loralie doing some gardening the other day while wearing her "kitten heels" and it reminded me of you, mom!

Ouch!

Loralie had a "great fall" this evening while I was unloading the dishwasher. From what I could gather she either fell off of my bed and hit a laundry basket or (more likely) was IN the laundry basket when it fell off the bed. She was crying pretty hard, even a while later, so I called Caleb and he took her to urgent care. After several hours, some x-rays, and several episodes of Dora on Daddys phone, we learned that she had broken her clavical. Poor baby!

Breakfast is served!

Romans four month birthday is just days away, so I thought I would let him try some delicious rice cereal! "What is this???" "Nom, nom, nom..." "Thats not so bad! Give me some more!" He ate his entire tablespoon of cereal and kept it all down! I am hoping eating some solids will help him with his tummy problems too!

Scooty Scooty Fresh and Fruity

Image
On our very first Valentine's Day as newlyweds, Caleb got me a very special gift. It was a Jack Russell Terrier puppy, no bigger than a microwave burrito. He told me Scooter would keep me company on the nights when he was working. I loved that little doggy, even when he ate our patio furniture, pooped on the floor, barked all night long, and dug out of our yard on a daily basis. He would curl up with me at night while I watched TV, go with long walks with me all around the neighborhood, and play Frisbee catch with us whenever we wanted. Fast forward ten years, and we are not the same couple we were back then. We have two kiddos now, who take up a much of our time and energy. So we sadly decided it was time to find Scooty a new home. With being so busy with the kids, he just doesn't get the love and attention that he once did. I have a friend who has five kids who was so excited to take him, and I hope that they are able to spoil him and love him like he deserves! My favorite Sc...

The farmer, the princess, and the cow

Image
Today my urban cowboy husband tried once again to turn our backyard into a farm. Loralie pitched in and helped him get the garden boxes planted. I asked Loralie if she was going to be a farmer, and she said, "no, just like a princess. Or a cow." But if she is going to be a cow she needs to get used to getting dirty... She kept asking to wash her hands every five seconds. So maybe this year will be the year that our little garden grows and prospers. Hope springs eternal.

Raindrops on Roses and Whisker on Kittens...

Last year, I asked Loralie to tell me all of her "favorites". I thought it would be fun to repeat the experiment each year and see how her answers change (or don't change!). Transcribed word for word: Me: What is your favorite toy? L: Um, just like my fairy barbie, tinkerbell and belle doll, puppy dogs M: What is your favorite movie? L: um, kind of like Cinderella one M: Who is your favorite princess? L: Jasmine M: What is your favorite thing to eat? L: Um, kind of like chocolate oatmeal and tomato soup M: Where is your favorite place to go? L: Um, kind of like a restaurant like Chick sa way! M: Who is your favorite person? L: You! And Daddy and Roman M: Who is your best friend? L: Nee Nee M: What is your favorite book? L: Mmmm ... Princess kind M: What is your favorite color? L: Pink M: What is your favorite song? L: Um, a princess one! M: What is your favorite outfit? L: Um, just like dresses M: What do you want to be when you grow up? L: Um, just like a princess. ...

Yesterday Loralie and I completed one of our Easter projects (I know, I am behind!). We talked about the Last Supper and then made some special bread to share. We took bread and painted it with milk/food coloring, toasted it, and ate it! Rainbow bread! It was fun to make and really worked. And here is Loralie reading to her brother! I just love his little round head!

Easter in B-Town

Image
We got to spend a relaxing Easter weekend in Bolivar with the Lenz clan. The kiddos were up bright and early and dug into their baskets with gusto! Loralie "helped" Roman go through his basket, happily noting that he didn't get any candy and she did... Pretty sure he didn't care though. Loralie's basket also contained a Cinderella DVD, a swimming suit and some matching flip flops. She has been told that we can't go swimming unless it is 80 degrees outside, so she has been checking my phone about every twenty minutes to see if it is swimming time! We also got to go to First Baptist church with the family and enjoyed a delicious Easter lunch. Hey. Who put me in a bow tie? Okay, it's not so bad. The most memorable part of the weekend would probably be me. My foot to be exact. I had a little mishap. You see, a few months ago I signed up to run a 10K in May. I figured it would be a good motivator for me to run regularly, and it has been. In fact, I ran ...
